Step-by-Step Instructions
- Boil 4 cups of filtered water in a medium-sized saucepan over high heat until it reaches a rolling boil.
- While the water is heating, zest a large orange to obtain about one teaspoon of zest and set the orange aside for juicing.
- Once the water is boiling, remove from heat, add the black tea bags, cinnamon sticks, orange zest, and star anise if using. Cover and steep for 5-8 minutes.
- Juice the reserved orange halves, aiming for half a cup of fresh juice.
- After steeping, strain the mixture into a large pitcher, removing solids, and stir in the orange juice and sweeten to taste.
- Allow the tea to cool to room temperature, about 10-15 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Serve over ice cubes and garnish with fresh orange slices and an extra cinnamon stick or star anise.
